One sports website has seen a 518 per cent increase in the amount of visits compared to the same time last year.
The US Open's mobile site has revealed it had 1.7 million hits during the US Open golf tournament last week, Tech Crunch reports.
But the regular web page only saw an eight per cent increase on 2009 and had 1.4 million visits.
Those who accessed the site could read the tournament news, see the scores and tee times, as well as view some video.
And Erick Schonfeld, writing for the publication, noted that short bursts of information is all someone really needs when they are accessing the internet from their handset.
He added, "When you are on the go, you probably don't have time to wait for a busy page to load with graphics you can barely see anyway."
